Robert Albert Bauer (1910-2003), was an US Foreign Service Officer, an anti-Nazi radio broadcaster, author and lecturer.
Bauer was born in Austria, studied economy and Arab studies in Austria and in Cairo.
He fled Austria, where he was working as a lawyer, in 1938 after the Anschluss and joined the Free Austria movement in Prague.
After Czechoslovakia came under Nazi rule, he became editor-in-chief of the Austrian Freedom radio station, broadcasting from Normandy in 1940.
When France was occupied by Nazi-Germany in 1940 he continued his work for a German-language radio station in Cincinnati.
In 1942 he started to work for Voice of America and soon became chief of their German radio section in Europe and later acting chied of Voice of America's European division.
In 1953 he became radio program manager of the United States Information Agency.
