The GNOME Mobile & Embedded Initiative (GMAE), also known as GNOME Mobile, is an initiative for developing and promoting the use of the GNOME platform in mobile devices.
It was announced at the Embedded Linux Conference in Santa Clara, California on April 19, 2007.
GNOME (pronounced / no m/) (abbreviation of GNU Network Object Model Environment) is a desktop environment-a graphical user interface that runs on top of a computer operating system-composed entirely of free and open source software.
It was created by two Mexican programmers, Miguel de Icaza and Federico Mena.
